Tyler Thompson

Tyler brings 15 years of strategic, startup, and operational experience to the REach team.  He is responsible for identifying potential candidates for REach as well as working with companies during and after the program.  Tyler served as a mentor for REach over the past several years and has added significant value to many past participants.  

Prior to joining REach, Tyler worked with several start-up and growth stage technology companies, including BitTorrent where they quickly surpassed the 100 million user mark. He served as CEO at both publicly traded Avalon Digital Marketing Systems and CaptureQuest and as part of the executive team at Deductr and the Business Software Alliance, where he represented the world's leading business software companies. 

Tyler graduated with honors from BYU and received his Master's degree from MIT. Expeditions to the North Pole (on a Russian nuclear icebreaker), the Serengeti, and the top of Mount Kilimanjaro have helped prepare Tyler for his adventures in the worlds of real estate and technology.

Mark Birschbach

Mark Birschbach is the Managing Director of REach®. He is responsible for identifying, evaluating and selecting the REach company participants as well as developing and executing the program.  

Prior to joining SCV, Mark was the COO at Monthlys Inc., an e-commerce start-up company funded by Lightbank (Groupon co-founders) providing a go-to marketplace for consumers to discover, purchase and manage subscriptions and memberships to local products and services. Prior to Monthlys, Mark was the President & COO of Active Radius, LLC, a start-up company that provides technology-based marketing solutions to real estate and other service professionals, where he established and executed the strategic vision of the company and built and managed all departments within the organization. Prior to Active Radius, Mark was a Vice President in Investment Banking at Citi where he led transaction teams during the execution of M&A and capital markets transactions across a broad range of industries including a significant focus on technology, media and telecom.

Mark is active in the entrepreneurial and technology communities serving as an advisor and consultant to several start-up companies. Mark received a BBA from the University of Notre Dame.

Dave Garland

Dave is responsible for sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities that promise to improve the global residential and commercial real estate industries. In addition, he supports existing existing SCV portfolio companies and plays a critical role in increasing the financial value of REach companies through coaching, mentoring and strategic advisory. Dave Garland brings over 16 years of strategic advisory experience to numerous venture- backed, public and private real estate companies - bridging these entities with established brokerages and technology firms. As a startup investor, he sits on several boards of growing real estate and mortgage technology organizations.

As an industry practitioner, Garland has acquired, owns and manages portfolios of single family residential, commercial and development properties across America. During the housing crisis, he worked with key organizations to create practical solutions for thousands of real estate professionals, including critical short sale programs instrumental in helping homeowners survive the great recession.

Garland holds an MBA from the Melbourne Business School and BA, Summa Cum Laude, from Notre Dame. He has also attended advanced programs at Oxford and Stanford and is a licensed real estate broker. Garland works from the Silicon Valley office in Menlo Park, CA.


Alex Lange

Alex is currently President and CEO of UpstreamRE, a comprehensive data management project for the benefit of the real estate industry.  Alex serves as a special advisor to REach, where he is responsible for providing strategic advice to the REach team as well as its REach Company participants.

 A graduate of Harvard’s General Management Program, Lange got his start in technology in the U.S. Army before entering the private sector as managing partner of IKON Technology Services, where he worked with major e-commerce sites such as and major enterprise accounts such as HP, Clorox and the Department of Energy. He later became CTO for / where he contributed to their expansion from a single location, 36M dollar business to a multinational 120M company in three years. Lange later co-founded and served as chief technology officer for, a successful social marketing platform which raised more than $12 million in venture capital and was recognized for its innovative new technology ultimately being acquired by Vertical Response. He later served as chief technology officer at Market Leader, a SaaS solutions (CRM, websites, print marketing, etc.) for real estate professionals, where he played a key role in building it from a $40 million market cap company that he joined to a $380 million acquisition by Trulia less than four years later. While at Market Leader, Alex was included in the Global Top 1,000 Chief Technology Officers (Bloomberg, S&P, The Global Leaders). Most recently, Lange served as an operating partner of Second Century Ventures – the strategic investment arm of the National Association of Realtors (NAR) – where he identified, evaluated and executed strategic investments and coached existing portfolio companies to increase value.
